I remember vividly when I reached a point in my business where I was working hard yet seemingly getting ZERO results. If you find yourself in a similar position then read on to find out how I was able to move forward to where I am today…
We all know what a treadmill is…
You stand there and run in place. You can get a great workout on a treadmill, your heart rate goes up, your lungs start burning, legs feel like they are made of rubber. You can almost feel the weight melting away from your body…
Yet despite all your hard work you are in the exact same spot as when you started…
While it might be fine to stay in the same spot on the treadmill when working out at the gym, it’s not quite so good when you feel like your business is on the treadmill! You’ve been out submitting links, writing articles, trying to build a list, you may have even gone out and purchased a home study course or coaching program for $1997.00+ bucks…
Yet, despite all your efforts your business is in the exact same spot as when you started. You’ve been working hard, busting your ass. Only difference is now you have burned through some cash and a lot of time that may have been better spent elsewhere. Obviously, you must be doing something wrong (or so you tell yourself) because this is working for everyone else…
So it’s not the product or system that you are following. I mean the system is proven to work, it just hasn’t worked for you yet. Nor did any of the other stuff you tried. What is the problem??? Why does this stuff work for other marketers, but not for you…
The guy who needs it most, the guy who needs to quit his job, or pay off some debt. Here’s what I discovered after being on the treadmill for nearly my entire first two years in IM. (that’s about 720 days of frustration, but who’s keeping count
…
You can’t follow everyone at the same time. At least I couldn’t, and I can only speak from my view point. In this post you are going to find out how I was able to make it far enough with IM to quit my job and then go on to get an office outside of my house. It’s from that very office that I am now writing this post…
HOW I BROKE LOSE AND MADE MY MOVE
First I followed the advice of one marketer that I gelled well with. Everyone else was just a distraction, so I unsubscribed from their lists, stayed focused and got busy…
I did this for about six months. I was only on one list during that period. Within this period I was able to replace the income that I was making on my job, quit my job and do IM full time. If you are wondering who the marketer was I followed it was Eric Louviere from www.JobCrusher.com I was (and still am) a member of JC…
I buckled down and started applying what was being taught in the program. Eric and the JC team have other products outside of JC, but I stayed away from them. I only followed the advice coming from within the JC training. I tell you this so that you too can stay on track…
Follow one guy, until you reach your destination…
You may begin to follow the advice given out in course A from the marketer of your choice. While following that advice, your marketer may come out with another product. Stay away from anything new, until you have mastered what you started. Finish course A, when you are happy with the results you have…
Then and only then should you consider buying something else…
The tip I just gave you is worth potentially millions of future dollars to you if you understand the power of what I just explained…
KEEP THE END GOAL IN FRONT OF YOU AT ALL TIMES
For me the end goal was cash. More than anything cash is what I had to have to quit my job. Bottom line. No cash from my IM business, then no quitting my job. However I was always sucked in buying stuff that promised easy riches. Even above that, at heart I am a tech guy. I love all things tech. I would buy products just to see how something was done. Just to get the knowledge because I wanted, no I HAD to know the secret. It took me a while, but I reached a point where I asked myself one simple question before I purchased a product. If the answer to this question was no, I’d move on. 99% of the time the answer is a big fat NO. I learned this question from my friends Justin and Chaunna Brookes – here’s my version of it:
Do I need to buy X right now in order to complete my current project?
If the answer is no you don’t buy, plain and simple. After I started asking myself this simple question I realized that the majority of the stuff I purchased had no bearing on anything I was work on. It was always something that I would use in the future…
Or in a distant project, or even to complement a current project (that I was working on) or it was just plain cool! As marketers we are all looking for the edge, so it’s VERY easy to get caught in the hype. You have brilliant guys like Kern and Walker teaching us how to make our market buy stuff. You have to be really focused on not buying unnecessary stuff in order to make it. ONLY buy what you must have right now to bring your project to completion.
I didn’t set out to write a book, I just wanted to write a short post
but at this point this post is starting to reach the length of a short report. So I’m going to wrap it up. Look for part two of this post in a week or so…

You speak the truth Jay. I am following one person now. I am off of all other mailing lists and outsourcing everything that is outside of my core focus.
Charles
Great post, Jay! I still have times where I get stuck on the treadmill.
Hey Jay,
I just wanted to say that this post hit the spot. I know about the treadmill woes. I have been there and done that. I’ve adapted the same techniques that you have(meaning follow one person at a time). When you finish what you started then you can move on. I agree with this post. Good one.
Thanks Charles!
